Good Morning – Here are two very different styles of art making.
#1… a B&W sketch of the home my grandmother grew up in. It was located in Lincoln Heights (Los Angeles). I love the large homes built during early 20th century.
#2…an a imagination doodle, drawn freehand and color added in Photoshop.
I like both of these, Sharon! Detail in different forms.

Such an inviting house, and so beautifully rendered. Your lines are always so full of life. I remember well my grandmother’s front porch, and the glider where we would sit and watch the world go by.
And I love your peeking eyes…and of course the colors! (K)

Interesting contrast! And an excellent example of what “style” means…

Yup, very different. Both beautifully rendered. The house reminds me of the one in Pasadena where my mother-in-law grew up.

Thank you Jan, a very typical style for Southern California at the time.

Both of these pieces are great but I am most impressed with the drawing of the house. It’s a seriously good illustration.

Thank you Laura. I rarely draw structures, but this needed to be drawn, because it was my grandma’s home.

I have had an interest in houses and home architecture all my life and I believe that if I were doing things over I would love to be an architect. I like buildings of all kinds, that’s why. Anyway, I have quite a few plan books for houses from the era 1900-1940 or so, and I love to review the floor plans and the facade renderings. Your drawing is absolutely perfect and would have sold a lot of versions of this house if it were in one of those plan books. I continue to be amazed and delighted by your work, but this one especially speaks to me.

Thank you Claudia. Thank you for sharing your comments about this drawing and your architecture interest. This home has such a wonderful inviting feel to it. The large porches on the early 20 century homes are very appealing. I have a photograph of my great grandparents sitting on the steps of the porch.

It seems to me that would make a great drawing, too, your ancestors on the porch.

Your drawings are beautiful and yes they don’t build too many houses like than anymore, unfortunately. Beautiful colour work as well….good enough to make my heart sing. 🙂 xx

HI Jill, thank you. My grandmother inhabits me regularly and drawing this house just brought her a little closer. She told me lots of stories of her childhood in this house,
